D-STAR システムとは、JARL（社団法人日本アマチュア無線連盟）が開発した、音声通信とデータ通信を組み合わせて、各々のレピータサイトをアシスト局による幹線通信で接続する統合的なデジタル通信システムです。

しかも、完全にデジタル化された信号はインターネットと同じプロトコルを使って通信することができますので、Webのブラウジングなどインターネット対応のアプリケーションが活用できます。

ID- 1はAMBE（Advanced Multi-Band Excitation）方式のCODEC（音声符号化方式）でアナログ音声信号をデジタル符号化し、GMSK（Gaussianfiltered Minimum Shift Keying）で変調する完全なデジタル処理を行っています。

これにより、ノイズの影響を受けにくいクリアな受信音声で交信が楽しめます。

そのほか、デジタルデータ通信では、従来のパケット通信（1200bps）の約100倍のスピード（128kbps）で通信が可能です。

■3つのモードを搭載デジタル音声モード（DV）、テジタルデータモード（DD）に加え、アナログのFMモードも搭載していますので、従来のアナログ機とも交信ができます。

また通信形態はデータ通信、音声通信ともに、それぞれのレピータを経由した方式に加え、レピータを介さずにローカル局同士のダイレクト通信もできます。
